LEO SOLAR ECLIPSE 12 AUGUST: CALM ON THE SURFACE

A solar eclipse is essentially a New Moon—an essentially hidden cycle that appears in the skies every 28 days. Know that not every New Moon carries the same weight.

The total solar eclipse occurs at 20°02′ in Leo on 12 August and begins a cycle that continues to develop its messaging over the next six months. Leo rules the Sun, and in this case, you and your Sun Sign, so you will want to pay attention as it is bringing into question topics around identity, visibility, leadership, creativity and sovereignty.

Ask yourself. Are you ready to be seen or merely attracted to the idea of being seen?

The house where Leo sits in your natal chart reveals where this reset is taking place. It needs to be read along with your Sun Sign for the most accurate forecast. The next Leo eclipse is another total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027 at approximately 10° Leo which will continue the Leo–Aquarius eclipse story. In August, the eclipse pairing will not deliver the same story to everyone.

Beneath the appearance of stability, Venus, Uranus and Pluto are forming an Air-sign configuration that favours innovation, new alliances and unconventional sources of influence or income. For those with financial houses activated, this may mean reducing dependence on corporate, governmental, banking or partnership resources—and creating something you own or control.

Mercury opposite Pluto will intensify persuasion, secrecy, obsession, propaganda and obsession. Remain alert to manipulation, particularly from powerful, self-made technology figures whose platforms, algorithms and carefully engineered narratives ultimately serve their own commercial or political interests. They appear to profit from attention, influence and behavioural data, while presenting their ambitions as progress for everyone. Conspiracy theories look to be fed through their platforms directly into the minds of the most anxious, egotistical, manipulative and a path most trodden.

Venus opposite Neptune is making the deception appear even more seductive. It looks to package exploitation as innovation, self-interest as idealism and financial risk as liberation. The cosmos say it’s important you maintain your own individualised strategy for success.

Venus opposing Neptune suggests some want to take the fastest route and lean into wishful thinking and, unfortunately, financial misjudgment.

The sky is busy. Saturn is exact with the fixed star of Alpheratz, which often brings ambition, fame, honour, influential supporters, and strategic legal or institutional support. Merak also lies within minutes of the eclipse degree. Traditional fixed-star symbolism suggests that any initial professional obstacles will stabilise through discipline and experience. It is Regulus exact with the South Node Leo Eclipse on 12 August, which raises a bigger question. By the way, some may want to book in for a check-up around a tumour or growth they know about, or alternatively a heart condition (it is something hidden and not outwardly treatable at the pharmacy). Book in for an X-ray just to make sure everything is okay.  Don’t leave your health to chance when scientific technology is on your side.

Also in mundane astrology, Leo and Regulus are associated with rulers, heads of state, royal succession, the Vatican, European powers, currencies and stock exchanges.  Watch the news. Foreign partnerships formed around this time appear to have a powerful commercial advantage. It will be a genius move designed to silence their critics.

Stay tuned for the Pisces lunar eclipse on 28 August; it will unveil information which is currently missing.  Remember, Eclipses are turning points; they come in pairs every six months. They are times you rarely forget.

Know you are on the eve of something exciting ahead. Acclaim will not just drop into your lap. It is earned. Jupiter has just started a 12-year cycle in Leo. Jupiter is also the traditional ruler of Pisces, so any news around beginnings and endings will be hard to ignore.

Remember, we look back to look forward. Astrology shows the likelihood of a pattern of events recurring.

The six months following the same series of zodiacal themes was on 1 August 2008. That eclipse at 9°32′ Leo was extraordinarily literal around leadership, institutions, sovereign power, alliances and money.

The strongest correlations were:

  • Russia asserted itself as a resurgent power. Fighting in South Ossetia escalated on 1 August—the eclipse date—and the Russo-Georgian War began in earnest on 7–8 August. Russia subsequently recognised South Ossetia and Abkhazia, confronting Western institutions and exposing the limitations of NATO. The eclipse path crossed central Russia.

  • China staged its arrival as a global power. The Beijing Olympics opened on 8 August, one week after the eclipse. It was a meticulously controlled demonstration of China’s scale, ambition and international authority. The eclipse path ended in China.

  • The established financial order nearly collapsed. Lehman Brothers failed on 15 September, a month after the second eclipse; governments and central banks intervened to prevent systemic failure, which later involved a restructure of the private banking system.

  • Bitcoin appeared as a direct challenge to institutional money. An exceptionally clear expression of separation from banks, governments and trusted intermediaries.

  • Barack Obama transformed the image of American leadership. He was elected the first African-American US president on 4 November and inaugurated on 20 January 2009—inside the six-month eclipse window. Leo’s themes of leadership, visibility and symbolic authority couldn’t be clearer.

  • Greenland voted for greater sovereignty. On 25 November, 75.5 per cent voted for expanded self-government, transferring further authority from Denmark to Greenland. The eclipse path had passed directly through Greenland.

  • Canada experienced a constitutional leadership crisis. Opposition parties attempted to replace Stephen Harper’s minority government through a coalition. Harper avoided an imminent confidence vote when the Governor General prorogued Parliament on 4 December. This brought royal prerogative, executive survival and institutional legitimacy into direct conflict. The eclipse path had begun in northern Canada.

The eclipse pattern is unusually coherent with established institutions failing or challenged and powerful new leaders starting to emerge. Governments and banks will be working hard to preserve profitable financial systems which give them the advantage in foreign trade, whilst alternative currencies or economies will take the next step in moving away from their dominance altogether. Questions of sovereignty will also come to the fore.

On the last note, I’m paying close attention to Jupiter’s passage through Leo in 2026–27, which revisits these themes above as well as those from 2014–15, and 2002–03 and these dates:

  • 12 August 2026: the 20° Leo eclipse will initiate the change

  • 28 August 2026: eclipse in Pisces

  • Late 2026–2027: Jupiter enlarges, publicises and accelerates it (November and February are highlighted)

  • 2 August 2027: the 10° Leo eclipse opens the second chapter of a story that begins now.
